The club has several very active Junior development programs with complete instructionsfor all juniors from 12-18 years of age (discuss with coach if younger).Juniors can train and become competitive in archery, trap, smallbore rifle and pistol,as well as air rifle and air pistol. A complement of Anschutz rifles areavailable for the rifle shooters. Junior pistol shooters train and competewith match grade air pistols and .22's, and advanced students also trainwith .45's. Several WSA juniors have received invitations to and participated in the Junior Nationals at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. It's not uncommon for themto bring back one or more medals from these matches. During the summer,the National Championships are held at Camp Perry, Ohio. WSA juniors usuallyform the heart of one of the medal-winning teams there each year. For thepast 5 years, we've received high junior team awards, frequently beatingadult teams and have broken or set approximately 50 Junior National Teamand Junior Individual Pistol records in the past 10 years. The coaches are NFAA, NRA and Mass. certified as instructors. Both Dave and Larry have won the prestigious NRAPresident's Award as junior rifle and pistol instructors andcoaches. Larry is also certified as a USAS/NRA advanced international shootingCoach and is the Massachusetts State Junior Pistol Chairman. WSA is committed to training young people in the safe and proper handling of firearms. We currently have firearms training programs specifically designed for the junior shooterin trap, pistol and rifle. These programs are delivered by NRA certifiedinstructors and are a requirement for participation in our junior teams.The schedule for our Basic Courses is maintained on our Juniors BulletinBoard.
Junior Archery Registration Feb 12, 4-6 PM for next session. Next class Feb 19, 4 PM The program is designed for beginning Juniors, ages 8 - 18, and follows the National Archery Association teaching methods, with a focus on safety, equipment inspection and correct shooting form, using recurve bows. All equipment is supplied. The first class will include orientation for the Juniors and their parents as to what they can expect from the program. As always, for safety and other reasons, a parent must remain present during each class. For more information contact Bob Regan. Junior Pistol Personal website for Larry Forman. The Jr. Pistol Program meets every Saturday morning from 7:30 am-12:30 noon, for boys and girls aged 10-18 (with some age exceptions as determined by Coach Larry Forman). We train and compete in the Olympic Disciplines of International Air Pistol, Sport Pistol and Free Pistol.In conventional (NRA) shooting, we train and form the core of the MA Jr. Pistol Team to compete at Camp Perry, Ohio in the USA National Pistol Matches held in July. The Program's objectives are to teach juniors the techniques and tools necessary to excel in Pistol Shooting. We welcome well-disciplined and mature young adults (children) at all skill levels from entry to highly advanced who can work with others in a Team building environment. All match grade Air Pistols, .22's and .45's are usually assigned to each Jr. as provided by Coach Forman. Currently, we are recruiting to fill a few remaining positions. Junior Rifle The Junior Rifle Course is scheduled several times throughout the year. This Saturday morning six-session 3-hours per day course is for boys andgirls, ages 12 - 18. The course runs for six weeks and is a prerequisitefor membership on the WSA Junior Rifle Team. Junior Trap TThe WSA Junior Trap Shooting Team runs from April until September. The team is open to any Middle or High School student. No experience or equipment is necessary. Safety training is provided. Junior trap shooting is an exciting way to build friendships, team leadership skills, maturity, concentration, and hand-eye coordination.
